ASOPAP is a producer group located in the municipality of Planadas which is in the Tolima department of Colombia. Planadas sits the Cordillera Central (central mountain range) of the Andes Mountains. Historically controlled by the FARC (an armed revolutionary group), Planadas has just recently become more accessible to outsiders. Although an improved political and social climate have eased tensions in Planadas, the terrain, unpaved roads, and lack of infrastructure (closest airport 5 hrs by car) still isolate the area.
ASOPAP is a small group (about 40 farmers) of dedicated and hard working producers who maintain high levels of traceability and organization. On average, ASOPAP is a young group and the members are eager to learn, improve, and differentiate their coffee. They are lucky to have been endowed with pretty much perfect coffee growing lands with regard to altitude, sunlight, temperature, and rainfall.
