COFFEE EDUCATION SPECIALIST

Full Time

As a Coffee Education Specialist, you are responsible for implementing JVG’s training program for JVG retail baristas and wholesale customers. This role requires a passion for employee development and excellent customer service.

 Responsibilities:

» Train Joe Van Gogh employees and wholesale customers on skills needed for excellent café service: coffee brewing, espresso drink preparation, and customer service principles.
» Be passionate about barista development and foster an enthusiasm for quality throughout the company.
» Strengthen and maintain relationships throughout with Café Managers, Baristas through direct interaction and frequent check-ins.
» Communicate frequently with Retail Operations Manager, Beverage Manager, and Sales Manager about developments in the training program.
» Anticipate and respond to wholesale customer questions, technical issues, and needs swiftly and appropriately.
» Relay customer needs to JVG support staff and third-party service providers when appropriate.
» Coordinate and conduct trainings, workshops and educational activities with wholesale customers.
» Know all JVG product offerings and build sales through recommendations and suggestions.

    Areas of expertise:

    » At least 1 year of full time barista experience in a retail café.
    » Competent in coffee and espresso extraction, beverage preparation, and has a working knowledge of coffee equipment.
    » Knowledge of adult education methods.
    » Works well in a team. 

      Additional requirements:

      » This position requires minimum 35 hours per week.

      » A positive attitude with excellent communications skills.

      » Be at work on time and prepared to work.

        » Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently.
        » Ability to prioritize and manage time.
          » Attention to detail.
            » A valid NC Driver’s license.
            » Criminal background check as required by JVG’s institutional partners.
            » Prolonged periods of constant repetitive motion.

              A Joe Van Gogh barista serves as one of many faces of the company as well as the final representative of the specialty coffee production chain. Baristas are responsible for providing excellent customer care as well as consistently preparing coffee and tea beverages to highest standard at a high volume. In addition to these tasks, baristas are expected to maintain daily operations (cleaning, stocking, organizing), continually build upon skills and knowledge, and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.

               

              Requirements: 
              » A valid NC Driver’s license and reliable transportation
              » Food and beverage experience
              » Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive, vibrant attitude
              » Keen attention to detail
              » Ability to work independently and self-motivated, yet also team oriented

              Physical Demand:

              Responsibilities:

              » Responsible for prep work of all bakery items and final construction while maintaining a high standard of quality.

              » Proper handling and storage of ingredients and finished products according to the health code.

              » Maintain bakery equipment according to hygienic standards and proper maintenance procedures, as well as a keep a clean, safe and organized work area.

              » Understand and practice safe use of bakery equipment and utensils.

              » Ensure that all bakery equipment cleaning is accomplished and cleaning logs are complete and up to date.

              » Follow recipes to ensure consistent outcomes.

              » Review production schedules to determine variety and quantity of goods to bake and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily baking activities.

              » Attend to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detect and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.

              » Receive, stock and/or deliver goods.

               

              Areas of expertise:

              » Food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality control.

              » Techniques used in professional production baking.

              » State and local health sanitation codes related to the operation of a bakery and a cafe.

              » Maintenance and care of culinary facilities, equipment, supplies and materials.

              » Inventory management.

              » Professional kitchen equipment maintenance.

              » Weighing and measuring ingredients used in baking.

              » Must have weekend availability

              » Ability to move heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds (approximate).
