The Communications and Marketing Specialist will engage our retail community through a variety of outlets including social media, events, and outreach. You will provide a consistent voice across all messaging platforms on behalf of the company, sharing our mission, our story, and our coffee. You will be the first point of contact for our seven store management teams, assisting with store-level marketing endeavors within their specific market helping to foster a sense of community and connecting retail consumers with our brand.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must, with a willingness to learn, be creative, and work in a dynamic and growing team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Communications:

» Work with Brand manager to develop and implement a communications plan for our retail stores

» Post relevant and timely content to Joe Van Gogh social media accounts, while tracking performance, and brainstorming ways to grow our social media presence

» Write monthly newsletters, primarily directed to our retail consumers

» Draft press releases as needed

» Assist with updating individual store pages on social media pages including Yelp and Google Plus

Community Outreach:

» Work with each store management team to develop and maintain community relationships in their individual neighborhoods

» Assist with company-based donation requests with annual partners » Assist with demos and events

Store-level Marketing:

» Facilitate store-level promotional projects with store management teams » Attend monthly store manager meetings

» Create messaging and signage for short term promotions

» Assist with merchandising retail products; labeling, sorting. Brainstorm new branded products with Brand Manager based on feedback from store management teams

Additional Requirements:

    » Take on new projects as directed by Brand Manager
    » This position requires 32-40 hours per week

    » Ability to prioritize and manage time
    » Excellent communication skills
    » Strong interpersonal skills
    » A working knowledge of our retail cafés is a plus
    » Prolonged, frequent ingestion of coffee, tea, and caffeinated beverages
    » A valid NC Driver’s license
    » Travel to our retail cafes located throughout Durham, Chapel Hill, and Greensboro in addition to our main office located in Hillsborough
    » Criminal background check as required by JVG’s institutional partners
    » Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, MailChimp, and web content management platforms is a plus but not required
    » Ability to work on occasional nights and weekends
    » This position prohibits the wearing of perfumes, colognes, or fragrances that may interfere with the tasting experience

A Joe Van Gogh barista serves as one of many faces of the company as well as the final representative of the specialty coffee production chain. Baristas are responsible for providing excellent customer care as well as consistently preparing coffee and tea beverages to highest standard at a high volume. In addition to these tasks, baristas are expected to maintain daily operations (cleaning, stocking, organizing), continually build upon skills and knowledge, and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.

 

Requirements: 
» A valid NC Driver’s license and reliable transportation
» Food and beverage experience
» Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive, vibrant attitude
» Keen attention to detail
» Ability to work independently and self-motivated, yet also team oriented

BAKER

Currently hiring for a full-time baker.

Responsibilities:

» Responsible for prep work of all bakery items and final construction while maintaining a high standard of quality.

» Proper handling and storage of ingredients and finished products according to the health code.

» Maintain bakery equipment according to hygienic standards and proper maintenance procedures, as well as a keep a clean, safe and organized work area.

» Understand and practice safe use of bakery equipment and utensils.

» Ensure that all bakery equipment cleaning is accomplished and cleaning logs are complete and up to date.

» Follow recipes to ensure consistent outcomes.

» Review production schedules to determine variety and quantity of goods to bake and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily baking activities.

» Attend to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detect and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.

» Receive, stock and/or deliver goods.

 

Areas of expertise:

» Food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality control.

» Techniques used in professional production baking.

» State and local health sanitation codes related to the operation of a bakery and a cafe.

» Maintenance and care of culinary facilities, equipment, supplies and materials.

» Inventory management.

» Professional kitchen equipment maintenance.

» Weighing and measuring ingredients used in baking.

» Ability to move heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds (approximate).
