The holidays are a magical time of year for people of all walks of life, but there is a special kind of wonder to the season for children. It is the simplicity of their joy coming from a place of curiosity and innocence that makes the season so sweet. And it is this tender curiosity we hope to foster through good resources and education.
A Coffee Child's Christmas is a program designed to not only bring joy to the children in the Andean communities of Northeastern Peru, but to provide educational materials to help their curious minds flourish. The program was created by The Café Femenino Foundation, a non-profit organization with a mission focused on enhancing the lives of women and families in remote coffee-producing communities throughout the world.
The Café Femenino Foundation hosts their Chocolatada Navideña every December. It is a Peruvian Christmas tradition that involves handing out hot chocolate, Panetón or sweet bread, and small gifts to children in schools, churches, and rural communities. Through this program, the foundation has indirectly promoted interest in reading and sports activities for children, while also sensitizing their care givers to promote hygiene habits and good health.
Although funding for A Coffee Child's Christmas goes out in early December, you can support the efforts of The Café Femenino Foundation throughout the year.
The Café Feminino Foundation depends on donations from within the coffee industry and every level in the coffee chain. By helping these families in need, we also elevate the coffee industry through community and family oriented projects funded by the Café Femenino Foundation. Their annual Chocolatada is a perfectly sweet symbol of generosity; it fills the soul and warms the heart.
