After roasting out of our Chapel Hill coffeehouse location for over ten years, we outgrew the space and knew a dedicated roastery was needed. We opened a roastery in Hillsborough in 2004 and have continued roasting daily in small batches, packing each bag by hand and delivering to many coffeehouses, restaurants and grocery co-ops in the area.
We roast to order on the Kestrel S35/Loring Smart Roast. We were an early adopter of the Loring’s re-circulating system – a system that actually burns the particulate matter in the coffee smoke, providing heat to the roast process and significantly reducing emissions and natural gas usage. This state-of-the-art equipment accounts for 80% fuel savings and 80% less carbon emissions compared to traditional 35-kilo roasters.
