He is responsible for roasting and packaging Selva Negra coffee. Pablo has not been here long, but being our roast master and responsible for packaging the coffee, he has a very interesting job. Pictured to the right, he is packaging roasted coffee for local sales. Pablo’s Family Pablo has several family members working at the farm. He has nine children, and six grandchildren ranging in age from 14 to 2 years old. Four of Pablo’s children and two grandchildren work at the farm. He has three daughters at school and one ready to go to high school. Pablo with the cap is pictured to the right with his family in front of the worker housing. Through Beanealogy’s Green Bean Program we would like to get help for sending her to high school in Matagalpa. Matagalpa is the closest city to Selva Negra. Selva Negra is located on Careterra Sur in between Matagalpa and Jinotega. Hammonia Selva Negra's coffee farm is called Hammonia, Latin for Hamburg, which was the hometown of Mr. Hans Bösche, German immigrant who first settled the land. The Kühl’s are direct descendants of these German settlers and continue to farm on the same land. Alberto & Chenda Vogl, pictured to the right, are ancestors of Mausi Kühl and came to Nicaragua from Germany in the 1880's when the Nicaraguan government invited young German immigrants to come and settle in Nicaragua in order to promote coffee growing in the northern highlands. Many young immigrants accepted the offer, thus forming the main coffee plantations of the country, many of which bear the names of the immigrant's motherland. |
